Blesk is a chromatic typeface inspired by vintage book covers and designed for magazines, headlines, theater, animated titles, three-dimensional printing, literary foils, mysteries & other display needs.
The name Blesk borrows the Czech word for lightning, flash or thunder. The drawing plays off the contrast of semi-conventional zaftig letterforms with subtle Eastern-European tinge, contrasting them with sharp lightning-bolt inlines.
Blesk starts with a primer solid style (capable of handling longer text blocks), and includes inline, left & right which integrate into louder layering potential of over seven distinct combinations. Intermingling styles allow for shape-shifting; from a dimensional look via complementary colors, to more dramatic clashes that can be uniquely emphasized when printed off-register, bringing in sense of age, modernism, and craftsmanship.
Featured in Print Magazine’s spring 2015 issue.
With over eight years of type design expertise, we’ve contributed to dozens of font families and are now starting to release our own directly to designers.
Previously, we’ve worked on typefaces for publishing (Wall Street Journal), technology (Apple) & retail brands (Tiffany’s). Get in touch if you need custom type: we’ve prowess in sleek functional designs, hand-drawn charm, decorative embellishments, adapting for different use cases and drawing in extended Latin (incl. Vietnamese), Cyrillic, and Greek.
When not generating type, we spend our time reading up on the psychology of visual communications, consulting on branding strategies, designing holistic brand identities, and building things for the internets.
